[sdiy] coil saturation

Hi there.
For a "mad scientist style" experiment I need a very special inductor, but I
have not that much experience with "roll your own" coils.
The inductance should be quite high, about 500mH, so I guess I need a
ferrite core. It should also saturate with ease, and yes, and a low
resistance would also be nice.
What should I use? Thin wires? Big wires? Large core or better a small one?
What I'm about to do is to build a simple gyrator style filter, and drive
the coil into saturation by a running a constant current through the second
winding.
Bye,
Nils
