Oh, finishing laquer - laquer about 3-5 coats, with the last one being
fairly thick, use 600 grit sandpaper and wet sand the panels, then use
a very soft old t-shirt go to turtle wax rubbing compound (iron
rouge), then chamois with polishing compound (white calcium), then to
kit scratch out for final polishing.
I have been able to get some absolutely wonderful results with the
above setup and make a mediocre laquer job look like glass. I gave up
trying to get the crappy bad spray pattern of a can look good by spray
alone. You really have to polish it afterwards.
It takes about 30 mins, but when you are done, its worth it. Plus,
too, you won't be able to see the edges, since after the polishing the
edges will be smoothly blended in. In this case, though, you will have
to have a bit of a exposed edge.
To get it stick down, I use some of that 3m Super 77 before I spray
the laquer, but beware, that stuff is a pitbull once it grabs.
Rob
