I must agree, I really like this.  I'm about to modularize,
at least to some degree, 2 fatman synths.  This is a great
idea.

And Rob, I like your idea of a "red patch cord".  It's the
"Oops, I plugged an output to an output" that is the problem.
Not "the one I thought out" and did it anyway on purpose.  The 
red patch cord would be an obvious warning.
