        Welcome to the wonderful world of Embedded System Programming!

    If the part can be programmed, chances are pretty good it is still
working.  Depending on which PIC you are using, this can be easily
checked.  If you have a FLASH part, just reprogram it.  If you have an
OTP, this is sort of like testing matches.

    Chances are very good that the problem is in your code.  Writing
code for micro controllers is particuarily difficult since you don't
really have any way of finding out what is going on inside.  You have to
be very clever.  I find it useful to bring the code up a little bit at a
time.  I generally start of with just making an LED flash, just to make
sure I am really writing code that works.

    But I will tell you, it can be done.  So far, I have never purchased
any expensive tools for doing micro controllers (such as emulators),
although, I haven't done all that much with them either.  Using the
flash programable parts, however, is a real must.  Being able to
reprogram the same part over and over again quickly really helps speed
up the developement cycle.
