Years ago, I had an injury that damaged many of the nerve receptors in
my left hand. Still functions, mostly, but it feels "asleep" most of the
time and I have very little "Heat Sense".
I was working a production line as a lead test technician for a
microwave communications company. As I was looking over a circuit, I
wondered "What's that foul smell?" I looked down, and it was ME! I had
inadvertently laid my little finger against the iron a could not feel
it. After 15 minutes under cold water, and a lot of ointment, it came
out OK. After 30 years, most of the mark has disappeared, but I'll never
forget that realization: "It's ME!" :)
