Helo everyone,
I dont know if anyone has said this already (beacause
I didnt read all of the replys) but the way they used
to get those concentric circle effects on
aluminum(circa charles linberg) is with a wire wheel
chucked in a drill press. I found this out from stock
footage they used in the begining of a movie (about
the spirit of saint louis) where they actually show
someone in a machine shop doing this. basicly select
the size of wire wheel (more cup shaped than wheel
shaped) to corespond with the diameter of circle
swirlys. then chuck it in a drill press, and gently
press the spinning wire wheel to the aluminum and
presto you made one circle swirly, then raise the
lever back to the upright position and move the
aluminum sheet over slightly, and do it again.reapeat
this process over the whole surface. it takes a while
to be able to get it perfectly uniform. you might want
to clamp a peice of straight material to the drill
press to use as a guide. anyway you can get all kinds
of fish scale effects and repeating cirle effects this
way. Just make sure to !WEAR SAFTY GOGGLES! wire
wheels love to shed wires, so take precautions for
flying broken wires.
