Okay, this is definitely DIY-Worthy. Zilog just started a big
marketing push for their Z8 Encore! CPU's, which actually are pretty damn
slick. I bought an evaluation kit which contains an evaluation board,
software development environment (including C compiler, deubgger, etc),
BDM module, and documentation for $50US. The really nice part is that I
called my distributor before I ordered this kit to find out how much the
actual CPUs are: $7.11 in piece (1+) quantities.
This CPU (the Z8F6403) is pretty slick. 8-Bit Z8e MPU core,
12-channel 10-bit ADC, 64KB of flash on board, 4KB of RAM, two UARTs, I2C
and SPI interfaces, timers, 3 channel DMA, and the list goes on... this is
better *and* cheaper than most of the comparable AVR and PIC
microcontrollers I've found. Quite a DIY product too... this is going into
several projects I've got planned. :D

Regards,

Prot
