Oh, I *know* how much the ARM SDK costs...that's why I wangled a free copy
out them! Well, they _are_ sponsoring my PhD :-)
Seriously, those little DSPs from Alesis look like a lot of fun, and they
can squeeze in 1024 operations per sample.
And small enough that enjoyable DIY can be had!
