I tend to use ribbon cable.  Preferable the multicoloured stuff as then you can
just rip off the number of strands you need and not worry about the red index
line.  Plus if you lay out your board with small ribbon cables in mind, it
can make wiring a front panel almost a pleasurable experience. I dont like 
using a single large ribbon cable and breaking it out as I find they get in
the way too much when working.  I'm sure with the proper layout this would
not be an issue.
