Also the Turtle Beach cards mentioned have some buffer memory that made them superiour at the time when PC DAW's were built on 386/486 Intel PC platform. Technically they were advanced with the Motorola DSP and the fact that they used memory mapped I/O with two-port RAM instead of DMA circuits on motherboard...
