[sdiy] The sound of various Op-Amps

Dear fellow Synthesists,
Since joining this list recently, I have viewed some really great web
pages which are maintained by some really excellent engineers and synth
builders. I have noticed that a lot of modules and general audio circuits
are designed around the TL-08X series of Op-Amps, of which I am quite fond.
I am aware that there are better op amps available in terms of slew rate,
CMRR, THD, etc., however is there anything that can be said for the "color"
or "sound" of the many Op-Amps that we have at our disposal? I have used
either the TL-08x series, or some of the newer Analog devices stuff for my
builds and they seem to sound great. I would hate to get like those
audiophiles with their "incredible air and warmth of my new pure solid
silver banana jacks", but it would be nice to know which Op-Amps are
regarded as "sounding good" at least for the purposes of creating music.
Perhaps functionality under given design criteria is the primary concern and
the sound color is secondary. Any advice would be appreciated as I am
embarking on a modular build up and I would like to start out on the good
foot.

Thanks,
Michael
