In the SC-01 they are not interjoined. The only help to create words is
that the different phonemes are stored together with a duration parameter. After
this time a pin changes the state. You can use this signal to write the next
phoneme to the chip.
For musical purposes it is more fun to ignore this signal. Just straight
phoneme production without a fixed timing.
Maybe I can find some time to record some samples with my SC-01 speech
synth so that everybody can hear what I am talking of.

PS: There is still no positive respionse regarding my search for the
SC-01 chips. Seems that these chips are very rare now. Maybe it is cheaper to
search for units that have these chip built into them...
