No, I'm actually doing this partially to test a theory that the the string 
itself will generate oscillating current.

where '=' is the fretboard, "|" is a nail stuck into the fretboard, and 
"----------" is the string.  A wire will be soldered to each nail, and one 
connected to the + and one the - of the phone jack.
