Many use the terms "Ring modulation" and "Balanced modulation" to mean the same thing - the two input signals (or one input and one reference signal, typically a sine wave) are multiplied in the time domain to produce one output. This output contains all the sums and differences (in the frequency domain) of the two inputs. http://www.buchla.com/series200e.html The voltage control outputs on the upper right of the Balanced Modulator section will provide a mixture of the input signal and the ring modulated signal. The mix amount will be affected by the 'balanced' knob, the control voltage at the 'timbre' CV input, and the typical center-detent +/- amount knob below the timbre CV input.
