the twisted hardware uses some extra pins for led loading. if you run the old software on the new hardware you will find that many of the leds don't light properly. sound generation should work fine though.

the old hardware can run both versions of the software. the only advantage of the old software is direct access to the top banks but you can find those in the twisted software by scanning bank c. running the old firmware also means you lose many of the recent bug fixes not directly related to the twisting process (better cv tracking and calibration, better handling of midi pitch bend, etc).
