If I was making a 6 unit system for drones and squiggles, I would start with a three-space-base of a 261e waveform generator, a 281e function gen, and a 292e low pass gate. This trio pretty much defines the "Buchla 200e sound". To that base I would probably add a 225e midi interface, a 291e triple filter, and a 266e source of uncertainty. This system has no sequencer, but there's an awful lot out there in the MIDI / software world in that regard. The size of the 250e (and the 249e before it) precludes it for a small system, imo. Even if you want fairly "outside" sequencing, there are quite a few choices, these days. The 227e mixer module is overkill for a small system.I would take the output from one channel of the 281e. >A quick further question , is the 260e worth buying aswell as the 261e ? I would get a second 261e, if I had the space. The 260e is pretty much a "special interest" module. In fact, does anyone on the list use a 260e? If so how do you end up using it? >My understanding of modular synths is with using a few basic doepfer >modules so i'm slightly our of my depth full with some of the modules >like the quad control function processor etc and how usefull they would >be in a small system like this.My logic says get the arbituary >sequencer / the source of uncertainty / 3 osc and are should be well >away way in terms of cross mod fx / randomised sfx etc. The 281e Quad Functio Generator is _really_ important. You need to clock the 266e to get anything out of two of the three sections, and a section of the 281e is a logical candidate for a clock source. The 281e provides envelope generation, as well as LFOs for the system. You can always use more LFOs and envelopes. -C -- Chris Muir | "There are many futures and only one status quo. cbm@well.com | This is why conservatives mostly agree, http://www.xfade.com | and radicals always argue." - Brian Eno
