can i use 250e to sequence my EMS Synthi AKS

hi all
I have a month to go before i get my Buchla and was wondering if the
250e AFG will be able to sequence my EMS Synthi AKS via this
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sequencer-Cable-VCS3-Synthi-AKS-EMS-Putney_W0QQitemZ230288463095QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230288463095&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

????

I still don't have a Buchla (been waiting a while but the little I've bought hasn't shown up).

Okay so that adaptor takes care of accessing the Synthi's gate (which is only on a socket
connector like that or a mod to the synthi). I'd think you'd need something to get rid of
the Buchla's trigger which might be hot enough for the synthi.

Since they are both linear CV and the Synthi is lower scaled, trimming the pitch CV is
necessary and should work fine if you want to try to get the Buchla pitch values to
correspond on the synthi. You could use the external input trimmer on the synthi if you
aren't using the external in for something else. But you'd bypass that with the adaptor
cable you mention. Something to trim with should be easy enough to find or build.

An extra twist you've probably discovered if you have any sort of external control system
for the synthi is that you get a voltage drop as you matrix patch in the second VCO and
likely a few other modulation combos as the matrix isn't properly buffered. I'll always
patch in and scale both VCOs and then turn down their volumes if not needed right away.

Just noticed when I edited a sentence I am unclear on in the post I just sent I left it even
more unclear.

The Buchla is going to send out a 10v trigger pulse combined with a 5v gate length signal.
My gut feeling is since the synthi is only expecting 5v and since it's not even a standard
generic interface connection (you've tapped into the Cinch Jones keyboard connector), I'd
definitely be cautious giving the synthi a hot trigger like that. I'd probably send it through an
external comparator if I didn't have a better answer.

The person that was selling/made that cable (Steve Thomas) is very
knowledgeable when it comes to EMS gear (and other modular gear.. and
a lot of other things). If he was selling it as a way to interface
with other gear I am almost sure that he compensated for the 10V
trigger in the cable.
I'm sure whoever bought it can ask specifics. And while I know he is
a busy guy, I'm sure he could make/and modify a custom cable for you.

He has a synthi/dyi page here:
http://monopole.ph.qmw.ac.uk/~thomas/synthdiy/

My gut is that whoever has the cable now is in good hands.
