I nerver said anything about cloning. I just wanted to to share my idea about a bigger portable cabinet for 200e modules. Of course produced by Buchla & Accociates but with all the gadgets from the 201e. If you want the standard configuration with the 222e you cant add some of the more esoteric modules like the Duophonic Pitchclass Generator or a 285v or a ZOe to to your 201e because ther is no space left. I would suggest going with Dons intended 201e cases for the 200e system.. its much more portable and lightweight then the older style 203 cabinets..due to the increased functional density of the 200e vs the 200 I would say its probably a bit of overkill anyway (just my opinion)
a "203e" would require more then one of the power buss boards since they were spec'd to only power a certain number of modules.
re: cloning.. I think rather then assuming Don is cool or is not cool with it (be it a cabinet or module or power board)... it would make more sense to simply call him and discuss your ideas/plans/concerns.. I find Don very friendly and approachable.. I am sure he would be happy to discuss his opinions on why he does or does not choose to recreate his older instruments with anyone willing to show him the respect of a conversation on the subject.
I think its important to point out that by supporting 3rd party products you "the investors" are denying essential development funds to Buchla & his Associates who otherwise have no way to fund new instrument designs and support currently available products... I'd personally like to see some more new modules for the 200e.
Buchla can be contacted at 510 528 4446

FWIW, even though they're not clones, I discussed some of my planned module ideas with Don before I offered the Pendulum/Ratchet for sale. I will certainly continue to do so. Don has been very supportive as I moved into production, coming through with answers to pressing questions I had. > I think its important to point out that by supporting 3rd party > products you "the investors" are denying essential development > funds to Buchla & his Associates who otherwise have no way to fund > new instrument designs and support currently available products... > I'd personally like to see some more new modules for the 200e. I agree with this in spirit, but in the specific case of Mark Verbos' power distribution board, Buchla doesn't make a buss board with space for eight power connections any more, to my knowledge. If you need eight connectors, you need eight. To the extent that the various third-party module manufacturers can avoid stepping on Buchla & Associates toes, and each other's toes, I think that there is room for more innovation and evolution of the Buchla Music Box. - C p.s. I still want a 40-module cabinet. :-) Chris Muir cbm@well.com http://www.xfade.com

I believe that the buss board in the center boat of the 18 space cabinet has 8 connectors, but 2 of them are used for powering the other 2 boats... --- In 200e@yahoogroups.com, Chris Muir <cbm@...> wrote:
