From what I understand, all versions of the 259e firmware are compatible between the different models. The only real difference is in the RED waveforms in the upper most section which introduce discontinuity. Both revisions will produce the same wavetable/DX bell sounds, but the newer firmware has more random aliased glitches... I'd guess that would only be a problem if you have no preset manager or you have to have the silk screening on the front panel un-revised. The graphics are the only revision not covered in the software update, functionally the hardware involved with either 259e is the same.
