Hoping to update an early 18WLS

Hoping to update an early 18WLS

2010-08-24 by Rash Rahim

Dear all

I acquired an early B&A 18 WLS cabinet some time ago, plywood end cheeks, no
gooseneck lamps and no provision for the 222e. I would like to see if I can
retrofit the gooseneck lamps - any kind soul willing to share the model of the
Furman goosenecks and, if it's convenient, let me know which supply rail the
lamp is taking it's power from?

That in itself would be great, as a bonus if anyone is able to relay what
cabinet provisions the 222e entails, that information would be gratefully
received also. Is it just x2 USB sockets at the uppermost vessel tied to the 5V
rail for charging, or is there something more elaborate and fancy I am missing?

Really I should contact B&A I suppose..... Still, if any of you have poked
around your cabs and happen to know, maybe you'll share - thanks if so!

Cheers
Rash

I don't think they are Furman lights. I'm not near my system, so I can't
say who makes them, they are 4 LEDs on the gooseneck, the base is sorta like
a BNC connector (but it's not), and the lamp screws onto the base which is
part of the case. As far as I know the 222e uses a ribbon connector and not
USB, but I may be wrong, I don't have the 222e.

I would call B&A to see if they can modify the older cases.
Lotta money in there to be tinkering around and flirting with disaster.

I can't answer the second question, but I can tell you that the LED gooseneck lamps on my system are manufactured by e-ray, a Hong-Kong-based company, and distributed by JR Electrical, based in Taiwan. They make several different models, but the one you want is the JL-902 from this page:

http://www.av-jr.com/Process?tag=prod_show_product&prod_key=75262

which uses a standard 12-volt BNC power connector. I'm not sure if you're going to able to order from them directly (they may only be wholesalers), but if not, they may be able to direct you to a more local company that can.

Rash (& others),

I was able to test a Furman GN-LED type lamp this evening.
Works fine - it appears that Furman sources them direct from J&R - as both the
LED head and gooseneck are marked with a J&R stamp.

Hope this helps.

Jason
