RE: [68300] Info

2004-03-09 by Melear Charles-rdph40

Hello everyone,

With regard to availability of the CPU32 and CPU16 devices, the bottom line is this:

1. If a part is currently available now, it will be available from Freescale. In particular, the 68331, 68332, 68336 and 68376 are some of the more popular devices.

2. Obviously, if you are not ordering the part now and it isn't readily available, then it certainly won't be available from Freescale.

3. The same is true for the MC68HC16 family. However, there are a lot more flavors of the CPU16 devices and many of them have been discontinued. The discontinued parts are generally those that were made for a single customer or those that never sold very well in the first place.

If you can get a part now, you will be able to get it from Freescale.

As a word of caution, if you are planning a new project, contact a local distributor or Motorola sales person and get them to swear that a part is going to be available. (Just because you have a data sheet for an MC68HC16Y3 doesn't mean it is available.)

In general, for the third time, there are no plans to discontinue any product lines (such as the 683xx and 68HC16 devices) just because we are going to split from Motorola and become Freescale.

Just be sure to confirm that the specific part you need is going to be available. (One part that you will NOT be able to get is an MC68HC16X1.)

I hope this is clear and that my words of caution about discontinued parts are not confusing anyone. Except for the name change, you should NOT be able to tell any difference in parts availability after we become Freescale.

Regards,

Charlie

Hello Charlie (and all),
With the changes at Motorola -> Freescale.
Looking into your crystal ball, do you see anything we should be
worried about for the 68332 and 68376? Also for a friend, the HC16 line?
