Hi Jimmy ! >Filter questions: How do you usually set the key track? > It depends on the type of sound you want ... with little or no enveloppe effect on the filter cutoff frequency it's better to set a tight key track . If not the extreme notes will remain unfiltered , giving the sound of the raw waveform . On the opposite you can leave the keytrack parameter close to 0 . >Resonance seems to really affect the band pass filter. > It's absolutely normal , as on a real analog filter the higher the "Q" factor (resonance) the shorter the bandwidth : the filter is more selective but the frequency response is not flat . >Do you use the sync feature? > Yes but it gives "distorted" or "harsh" sounds easily , sometimes a bit like a ring modulator . Try it on a simple patch with both oscillators , say, for example a 2 sawtooth pad : turn on and off the sync and listen ... >Do you layer sounds or just keep basic one or two osc patches. > Most of my sounds are "simple" , but i use 2 types of "multiple" sounds . With the keyboard split a sound with the arpeggiator or sequencer at left hand and another sound on the upper part of the keyboard . You can use rythmic bass patterns and play around with another sound , usually complex "fx" pads , to get a nice emulation of the early synth players . Another useful trick is to program both "scenes" with slightly different sounds and swap them with the mod wheel (obviously affected to the scenes mix !) . Very impressive with organ type sounds : you can "mix" between a jazzy sound and a more distorted, rock sound like with a 2 keyboards organ . You can achieve the same trick with 2 pipe organ sound , small flutes on a scene and a big "churchy" sound on the other . Do you have a "patch book" with commented examples ? If not i can send you one in .pdf file ... @+ J.F. spaceanimals a \ufffdcrit : >Most of the lead sounds I program wind up sounding cold and glassy.
