Re: [AN1x] New owner

2003-03-02 by Ed Edwards

Hi Bruce,
My tech 2\ufffd here: I think I've seen schematics that provide a trickle
charge to the lithium battery when AC is on. I thought this was a pretty
common practice - just give the battery 3VDC from the power circuit while
the unit is on and the battery gets charged... but that may have been a
unique design.

Hi Ray,

I've never studied the circuit in the AN1x, but the most likely answer is
yes, it uses battery power when plugged in and powered off. Usually, there
is a little circuit to keep the memory alive that basically says, "If I
don't see some voltage here, I'm going to take some from the battery." A
smarter way would be to take some from the AC adapter and THEN the battery,
but it costs more money to do it that way, so most manufacturers do it the
simple way.

Regards,

-BW
