Hi Jimmy,

I use a pair of the Midiman 2x2 USBs (the lime green ones), and they have worked very well.  I'm sure there are other options -- and maybe even some 2x2 horror stories -- but they have served me very well.  You can even gang up to four of them on the same computer for an 8x8!  Unfortunately, they are $20-30 more than the Yamaha you're talking about.  Perhaps the Midiman 1x1 (~$35-40) would be a good candidate.  OTOH, everything I've ever owned by Yamaha has been good quality, so I really can't say that the Yamaha isn't the way to go.
