USB MIDI interface

USB MIDI interface

2003-06-01 by spaceanimals

I'm going to buy a MIDI USB interface on Thursday. I don't need
anything fancy. I see Yamaha has one for $40.00. Anybody got any
suggestions? Money is definitely an issue.

Thanks

Rainbow Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

I use a pair of the Midiman 2x2 USBs (the lime green ones), and they have worked very well. I'm sure there are other options -- and maybe even some 2x2 horror stories -- but they have served me very well. You can even gang up to four of them on the same computer for an 8x8! Unfortunately, they are $20-30 more than the Yamaha you're talking about. Perhaps the Midiman 1x1 (~$35-40) would be a good candidate. OTOH, everything I've ever owned by Yamaha has been good quality, so I really can't say that the Yamaha isn't the way to go.

Yep, that's what I use as well. The only problem with the midiman interfaces is that you can't use them as through-boxes unless they are hooked up to a computer. on the 8x8 for example, you can't disconnect it from your computer, take it to a gig and use it as a simple 8x8 midi through-box even though it has a little "USB/through" button on it that works perfectly when hooked up to a PC. On the 2x2 this really isn't a problem since you only have two devices, but I thought I'd bring it up anyways since it's the one thing people don't like about midiman.

Has anyone ever gotten the serial host interface on the CS6x to work? I bought the cable but have been unable to get it working under 2000 or XP.

This is an excellent point and why I've been planning to add an Emagic MT4 instead
of buying another midiman. That said, I picked up a tmidiman 1x1 to have something
on hand which could easily b moved between my Win machines. Came with a copy of
Cakewalk somethigorother too - which is handy if you have no sequencer to begin
with I suppose.

Have you checked with the CS6x list here at Yashoo! Groups? Is that list still active?

Uggg....Sorry about that. I'm on both lists, and got confused.
