"Originally, the sound department was trying to use the sounds of elephants, lions and eagles, but none of these recordings turned out to be useful," says Ifukube, 89. "So I proposed the idea to use the sound of a contrabass, which has a very deep tone. To make the sound more complex, I rubbed the strings with a leather glove. The sound was electronically processed, and that's how Godzilla's voice was created." "

Would be rather cool if Steve could pull this off.... he is very clever with some of his patches ...

I remember this from a Documentary I saw long ago. Many confuse the cello for a contrabass but the documentary did show a contrabass in use with the sound being made. Oh well...
