AN1x not working

AN1x not working

2006-10-17 by tny_shrn

After 8 years or so, my trusty AN1x has developed a serious fault. The
display illuminates, showing 'YAMAHA 1997', which flashes weakly, and
that's it. It seems as if the operating system won't boot up. I've got
a replacement battery, a CR2450n which isn't a good fit for the
battery socket (the original was a CR2450y, not sure if there's a
difference), but it hasn't made any difference. The AN1x won't respond
to a reset (hold 7, 8 and 9, then power on) or a self check. I've
searched the forum for a similar problem but drawn a blank. Has anyone
else suffered anything similar, or is it ready for the electrical
items recycling skip (dumpster). Any suggestions would be much
appreciated, thanks.

I'd try contacting your local Yamaha distribution wherehouse and ask for the service department or drop them an email. I got bits for an old DX7 many years after they were discontinued.

If all else fails 2nd hand AN1X's are still quite cheap for what they are. Yours could be worth something spares too as you'll always find people who've smashed the keyboard or cracked the case.

Good luck!

Greetings:

You may want to check your power supply -- wall wart. Is almost looks
like a low voltage or limited current issue.

Get another 12v DC power supply with at least 700ma of current.

The battery is a non issue for now. It only holds the presets in
memory and has nothing to do with booting up. Any 3.2v Lithium coin
cell will actually work.

Regards;

Peter

Hi !
i agree with him , he was just quicker than me :-) because my answer
would be the same : your supply is probably out . It is not very
expensive ....
A thing to point out : if you're using a multimeter and check the
voltage on the supply plug you can perhaps find 12V or something like
that , but loaded the voltage will collapse if the rectifier bridge has
lost one or 2 diodes . It is better to swap your supply with another
(good) one and turn the synth on. These wall wart supplies are prone to
failures ....

Thanks for the reply Rob.

A few others have suggested trying a different power supply, and as I
have a CS1x as well, I just tried swapping the power supply over, and
the AN1x sprung into life. I would have never guessed that it was the
power supply. If that hadn't worked, the next stop would have been the
distributor though. Thanks again,

Tony Sheeran.

Brilliant! Thanks Peter. I have a CS1x as well, so I just tried

Dead right, thanks very much Jeff. I have a CS1x as well, so I just
tried swapping the power supply over, and the AN1x sprung into life. I
would have never guessed that it was the power supply.
Thanks again,

Tony Sheeran.
