hi, I am trying to get an1xedit up and running in classic mode on my ppc. Unusually when I try to do a new studio setup no checkboxes appear next to the port I wish to select. It recognises my tascam fw-1804 but no checkbox. Any ideas? thanks, schmaltzberger

You said "Unusually when I try to do a new studio setup no checkboxes appear next to the port I wish to select." You don't mean to say the Modem and Printer ports from the OMS Driver Search do you? Or do you mean from the OMS MIDI Device Setup dialog? If the latter, which is what I suspect, then have already connected your AN1x to the appropriate In/Out ports on the FW-1804 beforehand? I don't own a FW-1804, but I did download the Tascam drivers and install them successfully in Classic running under 10.4.11. Under Panther, and later, if your USB MIDI Interface had an OS 9 capable device driver you could run OMS 2.3.8 within Classic for your OMS compatible applications to work with your legacy hardware. I've done this successfully with AN1xEdit. I've never attempted this with a Firewire MDI Interface, but it might work if Apple's API allows Classic to access the Firewire ports as it does the USB ports on a PPC. Let me know how it works out for you. Jon

hi jon, I must aologise that my question was so vague, I didn't expect to hear from the an1x guru himself! Thanks for the great logic environments, they have helped me out a lot. I was refering to the checkboxes in the OMS midi device setup dialogue. I have my an1x plugged into the interface and switched on. The oms setup recognises my fw1804 but no mention is made of the an1x. Also no checkboxes appear to allow me to select the fw1804 port. I have OMS 2.3.8 installed in classic. I have the drivers for the fw1804 installed in the OMS folder (not the opcode folder). The fw1804 driver is 1.4.0 For further information I am running logic pro 7.2.3 on a g5 ppc dual 2 ghz. I am using osx 10.4.9. I am starting to think that my problem maybe that I have a firewire interface. Do you think I would need to have a second usb interface for the an1x to allow me to use an1xedit? Any other ideas on how I could get this up and running under osx? What would be a good cost effective usb interface solution if I needed to go down this route? many thanks, doc from oz

Those other VERY cool environments were created by people far more clever than me - but I bet they'd be happy somebody is making use of them. > I was refering to the checkboxes in the OMS midi device setup dialogue. The fw1804 driver is > 1.4.0 I think I got it...boy, has it been a long time since I used OMS... Go ahead and create a New Studio Setup doc for the FW-1804. Now use the New Device command under the Studio menu - create a definition for the AN1x. Once you've created the definition, the little synth icon for your AN1x will appear in the Studio Setup Doc - click + drag the AN1x synth icon to the FW-1804 port from which it is physically connected. Remember to Save and Make Current, then you can use the Test Studio command to try it out! If you still have problems - you MIGHT need the old FireWire System Extensions for OS 9 (they are not part of Classic, go figure?!? HA Ha ha) I found a copy of v2.5 on Version Tracker and used TomeViewer to extract them and install them in the OS 9 System folder (I know, I know - I have no life...) I did a restart of Classic and the FW Extensions show in System Profiler - It's late and I'm tired, but I'll try and mount a FW drive or something to Classic tomorrow to test. If you need help with the Extensions, email me offline... > For further information I am running logic pro 7.2.3 on a g5 ppc dual 2 ghz. > I am using osx 10.4.9. > > I am starting to think that my problem maybe that I have a firewire > interface. What would be a good cost effective usb interface > solution if I needed to go down this route? I've had very good luck with an Emagic MT4 and I had a MIDIMAN UNO working under classic. Last year I helped one of the fellas on the list with a MOTU Fastlane that also worked. The trick is to find a USB MIDI Interface with OS 9 USB drivers. All the above do, but newer devices might not have them anymore. regards, Jon
