distortion and self oscillation

2002-04-04 by spaceanimals

Sometimes I can get a good distortion with no effects on, but I'm not
sure why. I can't do it every time-it seems more like luck of the
draw. Also, sometimes I'm able to get the filter to self oscillate (I
think) but again, I'm not sure why. On my old SIEL I just turned down
the filter cutoff and turned up the resonance-instant self
0scillation. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes
the amplitude feedback helps, sometimes it doesn't.Also, the
amplitude feedback seems to have an optimum position depending on the
patch-it doesn't just get more raucous as you turn it up. It reaches
a sweet spot(or doesn't really do anything) then levels off. Why?

Suggestions: 1) Use the Feedback parm in the VCA section for
distortion effects and/or 2) the Noise parameter in the MIX/VCF
section. If that's not noisy enough then 3) Crank up the FM Depth
parm in the Sync/FM section.

Remember, the FEG Depth setting interacts with the Filter Cutoff
value - make certain to adjust it when if you drastically reduce the
FC downwards.

Why?

Try raising the Filter Cutoff value in this instance.
