CRAP!
I was *sure* that the ribbon software was buggy when I got mine new. I should
have YELLED LOUDER to the group and to Yamaha. It's such a cool function to
have a "return to default" or "remain at last level" for a controller like the
manual claims.

Optimist view: at least we know of the problem and can program around it.
Pessimist view: CRAP! (My father used to call this anal-optic-itis, the
condition of always looking at the world through your butt hole.)

Yeah it is crap- but most software companies are doing this very thing today-
for eg- there's no plans for NI Reaktor to run in OSX (all developement is on
PC), and the playback module dosen't work- it's things like this that bore
me, piss me off, and Yamaha- although really should know better- have always
had this attitude.
- I'm considering selling Reaktor and getting Reason (+ Cellsynth)- because
the development is so much better and Cellsynth is British and shareware-
therefore cheaper! (And I'm getting really tired of having to build something
everytime I turn it on-I want to make music not mathematics!- oh well that's
enough ranting for this morning as far as I'm concerned heheh!).

Tom :-|

Analogue- I think it has a great future- LOL!

I wish I'd heard what you were trying to say:-( Sometimes the
significance just doesn't 'click' if you don't make use of the
feature yourself...

I kind of agree with this which is why I believe it's up to us to help
them, i.e., Yamaha, NI, etc, understand our expcetations.
Granted the AN1x is five years old and it *did* see a couple of
minor bug fixes. Too bad more of us did have more on the ball a
couple of years ago :-(

There was some NI discussion on the Absynth list and the plan
is supposedly to have OS X ports completed by end of year - end
of year 2003! Ha ha ha Eighteen months? Are they kidding? ha
haha

I think NI may have bitten off more than they can chew - they're
product update schedule is not at al 'Mac friendly.' You've already
heard me gripe about the lack of updates to BATTERY and
Absynth. Granted there are valid technical reasons for the
Absynth delay (going cross platform and enhacing the uderlying
audio engine for *future* updates) but BATTERY is just out & out
being neglected in favor of KONTAKT. How is that going to
persuade me to buy KONTAKT? It's not I tell you.

Re: [AN1x] Ribbon Controller Assign follow up

Sorry...my own fault, I hadn't been paying attention and then I saw this and
perked up.
Is this in regard to when you assign some parameter to the ribbon controller
that
actually you always want to have the same value but want to "jiggle" a
little with the ribbon?

Cause I, still relatively a newbie in synth programming, have sometimes
tended to use parameters that while they sound cool on the ribbon, often am
unlucky and when I let go I have the parameter in a state that makes the
patch bad....

So I really would love a switch to tell it that when I stop using the
ribbon, go back to a set value.
Was there supposedly a way to do that, but it doesn't work or was there
never plans for it?

Sorry for coming in so late in the thread....I have been in "delete mode"
lately and it is entirely my own fault.

Thanks,

Jim

James,

You'll find the entire thread available for review on the list
archives - which can found here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/message/6028

and the follow up thread here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/message/6107

To summarize, there is an intermittent bug which makes the
Ribbon Controller X value return to center regardless of which
parameter is assigned to Ribbon X. There is no fix forthcoming
from Yamaha.

regards,

Jon
