AN/DX200 problem

AN/DX200 problem

2003-01-05 by DMANX@talk21.com

Hi,
I bourght the AN200 and DX200 today, im sending them both back, because the sound out put quality is not as good as my AN150plg on my sw1000xg.And I can not use the AN/DX200 editors because it will not work in WinXP plus you have to use it with XGworks, and I need a stand alone AN/DX200 editor to work with cubse5.1 in Win XP.
Regards
Dmanx.

I'm confused by this comment - the PLG150AN and AN200 use
the idencitcal sound source and no doubt the drum samples are
probably XG based too (like your SW100XG card.). Having
listened to both the AN200 & DX200 it seemed to me the sound
quality was comparable to other instruments in that price class.
Are your comments in reagrds to the AD/DA convertors? Perhaps
you need to review your mixer/monitor configuration.

Whoa! Slow down...I think you need to reassess why you
purchased the AN200/DX200 combo to begin with - if you're
saying you can't use them to make music because the editor
won't run under XP(!) then I think you're missing the
point....sounds like a case of buyers remorse.

Oh, I know it well. I hope our AN1's hold up so well.

As for the DX200, it offers more than any of Yamaha's other FM models
and cost less than even the FM7 software emulation. I especially like
the computer based editors for the AN1 and DX200. I wish my other
synths had something as nice. It will be hard to buy something that
doesn't have one, now that I am spoiled.

As for better than 16bit output, I don't see it. The unit sounds as
it should and it is quite good. Raising the resolution of the output
would really call for raising the resolution of the engines. That
might be nice, but would probably raise the price.

Enjoy!

But still more expensive than FMHeaven ( an alternative software
emulation program).

I think it sounds great.
But then again- I'm happy with the resolution of my 8-bit CZ101, 12-bit
TX81z, and 16-bit DX7IIfd.

I wouldn't call the DX200 or AN200 "gritty"- compared to the
aforementioned synths its' quite clean.

Glad you mentioned the FMHeaven plugin - it does sound great
(even if the UI leaves something to be desired.) There are cross
platform demos for download here:

Yep, I tried it. UI is brutal and, as I remember, it used lots of CPU
 cycles.

As for "use what you have," things sound the way they sound. It is
part of their charm. Work with it.

Move to quarantaine
