Hey Bruce, I checked out your website and I'm still not 100% sure what it is 
that you do. So let me ask; Do you design and sell computers for music 
applications. I want to put together a PC for Gigastudio 160 but dont know 
exactly what I need as far as a compatable sound card and I know that I would

My day gig is a design consultant/engineer, mostly for startup companies in the Boston area.  My side gig is a fledgling business selling musical gear, some of it of the technical variety.  I used to design computers for people like NEC and Compaq, which is why the computer end of things figures so prominently in the consulting side of my website.

I don't design computers for music as a one-off kind of thing, although I've helped computer companies include music and audio in their product lines.  I don't think you'd like my day-gig rates, though!  :^D

Hi Richard, Thanks for the response. I'm not ready (financially) yet but I'd 
like to know what I'm looking at price wise.  I mean, I know I could go out 
and buy a dell and install the software but I want to make sure that I get 
the right soundcard, Seperate hard drive for the OS, Plenty of RAM and all 
that good stuff. I'd like to run the 160 version and be able to max it out 
without worrying. Also, what kind of mixing can you do with the voices 
(channels) individually? I mean, is thether eq or dynamics per channel or how 
many seperate effects sends and stuff like that. I just want to be able to 
take advantage of the commercially available sample libraries and do 
orchestral mock-ups. First I have to buy Symphony of Voices for my S3000xl. 
Then I'll purchase a giga machine. Thanks for your help.  Eric W

Well, it's always changing...

Not a big problem - it's the combination of the RIGHT components that makes
all the difference - sometimes the more expensive thing will be worse than
the cheaper one...

Giga is the way to go!

Well, lots of people use GS on a machine as a tone bank and sequence on a
second PC.  There is talk of a new version coming out so this also might
change.
The cost would be fairly close to whatever you could purchase the Dell
equivalent for - the disadvantage is that you would not get bundled
software, the advantage would be the components would be hand picked and
tested to work with the exact programs you will be using.  When you get
close financially let me know and I can spec. it out exactly for you  -
computer parts prices fluctuate like the stock market -
