Bulk Dump

Bulk Dump

2003-05-25 by hannesm00

Hi ! I need some help !
I just connected my AN1X into the computer (using win 98)
Where does the AN1X put the data on the computer, when I make a bulk
dump ?
Using AN1xEdit, there doesn't happen anything, but the AN1x is
connected, because I can play some soft-synths with it...

Please help me !

If you are using a sequencer program or AN1xEdit to save the data, the program should ask you to save the dump, and offer a directory choice during the save process. If you just connect the AN1x to a computer's MIDI interface and press the Bulk Dump on the AN1x, then the data is not going anywhere. Just because you send data to a computer is no guarantee that the computer receives it.

There are several things that can be going wrong here. Playing a soft synth only requires one MIDI cable, while running AN1x requires two. Several things could be going wrong: 1) The computer might not be actually sending data to the MIDI Out jack; 2) The cable between the computer and the AN1x's MIDI In jack might not be working; and 3) The AN1x's MIDI In might not be receiving the data. Here are some things to try:

- Do you have two cables connected, one from the AN1x's MIDI Out to the computer's MIDI In, and the other from the computer's MIDI Out to the AN1x's MIDI In? (The Thru jack is not used.)

- Are the Transmit Channel and Receive Channel on the AN1x set to the same channel?

- Is the Device Number set to All? (Unless you have more than one AN1x, this is probably the best setting to use.)

- Have you tried swapping the two cables to see if the soft synth still works?

- If you have a sequencer program, can you record notes from the AN1x, and then play them back through the computer?

- Do you have any other synths that you use with a sequencer or editor? Do they work with the same cables?

Two suggestions:

1st, check the Yamaha website for a RM1x user guide - many of
their Reference Manuals have been made available online as
PDFs. Check the Index for 'Bulk Dump' or 'Store.' 2nd, check
Yahoo! Groups for a RM1x discussion forum (such as this list)
where there is no doubt a frequently asked question. Here's a
RM1x link that might be of use
http://members.brabant.chello.nl/~h.megens/rm1x/

hope this helps.
