Mellotron Flute uploaded

2005-05-15 by Magnus Persson

Hi!

I've tried to create a Mellotron Flute voice that I find rather good.
Try it out, it's in the yatzy_1.an1 file in the Files section.

All comments are welcome!

Regards, Magnus

Heh.

Reminds me of hacking away on my first synth, a Kawai K1-II. An "additive
synthesis" rompler. You could stuff up to 4 waves from the 128 in the wavetable
(about 1/3rd were entirely useless) into a patch and then put an envelope on
each one. No filter section whatsoever. Talk about trying to get blood out of
a turnip...

But I did manage to create a lively emulation of a car engine starter cranking
and then the vrooom of it pulling away. Must have taken me 8 hours to build the
patch... but there was this elating sense of success when I used it to lead off
a song at a live gig.

Don't get me wrong, Magnus, I admire your efforts. I suppose what I'm saying is
that I've gotten lazy in my old age and would rather use my A3000 sampler to
play Mellotron flutes when I need them. :.>

Dear Ed,

If you like me want to minimize the rig to only two synths, in my case a
Nord Electro and the AN1x, you sometimes have to compromise on authenticity.
The Electro is fairly authentic regarding the basic keyboard sounds like
organ, rhodes and clav, and the AN1x is really great at analog stuff.
But sometimes there is a need for something else but I don't want to
haul a sampler setup to every gig for just a few tunes. (Been there,
done that)
If I with the AN1x can produce a sound that *feels* like a Melotrone
Flute even if it's not authentic, I'm satisfied.
And I'm sure others on the list share my opinion and is thankful for
this addition to the sound archive.

regards, Magnus

Hi again!

Has anyone even bothered to download and test this voice?
I'm very satisfied with the result but I want to know if i'm the only
one who likes it...
Please let me know if that's the case so I can become a tone deaf
drummer instead.

Magnus,

The fact that you even TRY to create patches puts you above 50% of the synth
users out there. When I talk to people browsing at music stores I'm amazed at
the dumb looks I get when I start talking about how synthesizers work.
Unfortunately, my AN1x is not next to my computer any more, so I'm not able to
sample patches much lately. Maybe you could plug a mic into your computer and
record a little sample for the group to hear...

Even better, the fact you made it to a group that is related to the synth in question that you are making patches puts you even higher... ;-)

Going from there, you did not lurk, you posted and some was able to figure out what you where talking about. Just gets better from here.
