Hello, got it

Hello, got it

2005-09-19 by Thomas Anklam

Hi Freaks Im new. Bought my AN1x last saturday, after
rejecting downgraded AN200 and expensive PLG-Hosts. I
dont yet know where to put being Keyboard #5. But
AN1R I couldnt find;) I listened through all of those
virtual analogs and found the AN1X is a monster. Maybe
one shouldn`t expect reading the features list. But
in blind rehearsals its the most EVIL and LOUDEST
one. Looking like a cake box (CS1X) it reminds me of
young Elvis Costello or of Angus Young in his school
uniform. A real wolf in sheeps clothing and CHEAP-ok
Ill have to buy another stand...
Im playing synthies some 20years. Once had the DX7IID
until my musical partner bought another.
Actually:AN1X, FS1R,SY77,FB01,G50 guitar-to-MIDI
converter to name the YAMAHA-gear. Happy to be here.

Hi Tom, and welcome -

Yep, you got a good one. It really is a great sounding, versatile board.
Take this hint: Most of us on the list are using less than 50% of the original
factory patches. Why? Because a lot of them don't take advantage of the
enormous power.
How to get patches: Go to the Yahoo Files section of the group and learn how to
use the AN1xEdit program.
How to learn to edit or create patches: Remembering the fundamentals of
subtractive synthesis, build your patches where you can see them - inside of
AN1xEdit. Then get advanced by exploring the FM possibilities. Expound on the
sequencer, pound on the arpeggiator, and resound on the Free Envelope Generator.
View a sequence. Learn how it's built by dissecting a good factory patch like
#128. Zen is understanding that the Free Envelope Generator can be mapped to
insane possibilities like the Ring Modulator or LFO speed.
Finally for the PhD level: Master morphing, the Matrix and right hand soloing
with the left on the ribbon, wheels and knobs. Buy a hold pedal and 2 FC7
pedals and map them to usable stuff.

Report back often with your results.

RE: [AN1x] Hello, got it

2005-09-21 by Thomas Anklam

Hi Ed, and thank you
for this warm welcome. I just had to share my feeling
happy risking to bore anybody on the forum. And
instead such an embrace. The sounds, I dont even know
if they are factory buying second hand. What I know
is, Im intersted in what a machine can do, what it
can sound like. And through the years I found you have
to turn off as much as possible:no FX,detune, second
osc(except for FM/Sync) if you really wanna hear it. I
came across the AN1X trying to help my brother, who
was looking for an VA. Hes not really a synthesist,
and Ihad been reading German "Keyboards" and "Keys"
for years. Now I took all the magazines demos into
WinAmp letting them play randomly. And each time I
found myself looking, "which synth is this" it was the
mean blue machine. Most astounding I find: the
features list of Roland, Clavia and others is much
longer BUT...!
Thanks for all your hints and links and I promise I
will report on my progress.

Hi Tom!

Thats the modelling. Old, but obviously the best :-)

Not comparable to big analog sysnths, but at least the same modelling. DCOs
can also charm, like the mighty DSS-1, with 12bit sampling and 256KB RAM :-)

I tried a lot, (need Organ and Electric Piano) but the old 12bitter is doing
the best, except my Organ.
Even the E-mu E5000 Ultra, I have too, cannot compare in Organsounds with
the DSS-1.
The VCF section on this old machine is getting very near to bigger modular
synths. Like, vour voices placed in the Stereospectrum - amazing for a
keyboard.

The An1-X is a nice machine. Good for Bass, Percussion, Lead etc. (although
the DSS-1 with DCO is probably better for Leads)

I wish you much fun with your AN1-x.

Best Regards,

Daniel Mandic

Hey daniel
I dont yet know if my message had been that fractured
when you read it, or you cut something out. However,
you bring to mind something I once had to sell, when I
was more than VERY short. I should try to get me again
a Prophet 2002, 12 bit AND REAL analog filters, the
fastest cutting envelopes Id ever heard. If it had
had multimode filters I probably never would have
forgotten that machine. Thanks for reminding me of
that.
