off-topic (a bit): single pattern/voice dump in dx200

off-topic (a bit): single pattern/voice dump in dx200

2005-12-22 by zyguli2k4

Hi everyone,
Recently I bought myself Dx200 and noticed there's no single voice
dump option from the box. I like to keep my patches within the cubase
project file as sysex - with An1x there's no problem but
unfortunatelly the people of Yamaha gave no such a possibility to a
dx200 - that's quite dumm actually. So I started thinking and
recently I managed to configure midi-ox like this:

(MIDI INPUT) MPU-401 - a port to which midi out from dx 200 is
connected - TO -(MIDI OUTPUT) MIDI YOKE NT:1

and

(MIDI INPUT)MIDI YOKE NT:2 - TO - (MIDI OUTPUT) /a port to which midi
IN from dx 200 is connected/ 1-1010 MIDI (its an midi port from my
audio interface - Audiotrak maya 1010)

I set XG works input as MIDI YOKE NT:1 and the same with one of
cubase's channels,
as an output in dx200 editor I chose MIDI YOKE NT:2 when I make
'receive 1 pattern' in the editor, the data from DX200 goes
simultaneously to the editor and Cubase - I had to increase the sysex
buffer in midi ox to 2048 bytes, because the transfer was stopping
almost at the beginning - now it looks like the whole transfer is
being done but the editor transfer has to be stopped manualy, after
this the editing from the editor has no effect on Dx200, It is also
impossible to make another pattern request. What's the cause? I don't
know much about sysex and sysex setup, so maybe it's the matter of
buffers or so? I'm really looking forward to solution, because this
issue makes music making annoying. Thanks in advance.

You've taken an interesting approach to the problem.

I would suggest you simplify your MIDI Yoke configuration for the
purpose of trouble shooting, i.e., try to establish the desired
communications pass through on application at a time.

Also, I would suggest you double check the Options in each program
to verify that SysEx data is not unintentionally filtered.

As an alternative, you might try dumping the contents of your AN200
to AN1xEdit which has an Export command for saving select Voices as
individual .SYX or .MID files.

Thanks for the reply.
Well, the deal is to make the sysex data go into cubase for saving
purpouses and the issue is that dump request is possible to make only
from the DX200 editor in XG works and when the signal doesn't come
back to the editor (but would go to cubase only for example), the bulk
dump won't even begin - don't have a clue why.

Everything seems to be working, but the editor bahaves like it would
lost a proper midi connection to the unit; it doesn't make any changes
in the unit but hangs the sound when I change the values from the
editor an play the voice at the same time.

The case here is about Dx200, and it's editor doesn't give such a
possibility. Nobody could help me on the dx200 list yet, so I gave a
try here.

My bad, I kinda overlooked that DX200 mention...;-)
