Regenerative Music Using FINGERS

Hi all: I was going thru some of my TXT files and found this Experiment I did. You can use MIDI AXE for this, as it contains Fingers http://tamw.atari-users.net/midiaxe.htm Comments welcome. Anybody else know another way to do "regenerative Music" ?? TimC ====================================================== Regenerative Music Using FINGERS (from Dr T software) 1. You will need two Atari Computers, or One Atari Computer and a "hardware" sequencer, (or a Midi keyboard workstation )with a SEED sequence. The idea is the "seed" sequence is "fed" into the Fingers program, and Fingers "regenerates it, or replays constant versions of the same peice, but all different. The Midi OUT of the SEED system goes to the MIDI IN of the system running FINGERS. MIDI OUT of the system running FINGERS to your modules. 2.Set up FINGERS as follows: A. make sure you have a "blank" default with no pitches or velocities generated. B. Select the PIT(ch) top selectors so the arrows are going into the next PIT(ch) series.Do the same with the VEL(ocity) series. Thus at the top of the screen you should see this: PIT>PIT>PIT>PIT>VEL>VEL>VEL>VEL> C. You can put in some TIM(ing) values as these will not be generated from the seed source. To keep the Timing constant, just keep it at the defualt value of 12. D. Select REC(ord) from the bottom menu. then select START. You will hear a drone of one note. 3.. Start the SEED system sequence. You will then see Fingers capturing the data, but as the seed sequence continues to play, Fingers continues to capture it since it is still on record, yet outputing the midi data at the same time. Also Fingers is on continous "loop" mode restarting itself at the beginning of the PIT(ch) and VEL(ocity) Series. Thus a "form" of regeneration will be apparent.. Note: the usual function of REC(ord) is to input a scale using a midi keybrd. Using it this way is a bit experimental, but that is what this program is for anyway! 4. You can also be interactive with it and play with patch changes, Global transposing using the 10 keypad, muting and unmuting channels, ect all while the music is playing. ********************************************************* Tim's Atari Midi World : http://tamw.atari-users.net Atari-Midi Forum:http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/atari-midi Hotz Translator Forum: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/midi-translator/ ========================================================== _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
