There are a number of users of avr-gcc on MacOS X, that also use USB  
to serial converters to drive JTAG ICE. I don't, but I do most of my  
editing on Mac, commit via SVN, update my working directory on PC with  
"svn update", recompile, debug, "svn commit", repeat.

Guessing http://www.bsdhome.com/avrdude/ would be able to drive the  
parallel port programmer on your myAVR.
