     I have used AVRSP.EXE and AVRPP.EXE from 
http://elm-chan.org/works/avrx/report_e.html

     They both auto-detect the processor type.  Why Avrdude doesn't do that?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
