This is exactly the purpose logic opto-couplers ("opto-isolators")  
were invented for. Complete isolation, of several kV.

You can buy them in SMD and DIP packages, in singles, dual and quad  
configurations. A couple dollars and you're safe.
Very cheap insurance.
