Acer, say no more, wouldn't use an acer computer even if they wanted
to pay me to.I regard Acer worse than goldstar.
(Time for new laptop ? or pcmcia parallel port card)

You do have a port driver installed for winxp?

You haven't installed other software like xilinx webpack
that messes with the parallel ports.

May be worth reinstalling the parallel port driver.

Also is the irq for the parallel port shared or not ?

Also try normal mode, or ecc + ecp

portnt95.exe www.winpicprog.co.uk driver
usally works no problems.

http://www.lpilsley.freeserve.co.uk/download/port95nt.exe
or
ftp://ftp.keithley.com/pub/metrabyte/unsupport/port95nt.exe

Some laptops have a "windows" parallel port.
partially emulated in software.
Costs a few cents less for ther manufacturer.

Do you have a meter or even a led so
you can test the outputs from the parallel port ?

Tried linux ?
zipslack is easy, can boot from inside windows.
