The reader handles all of the interface to the card. It appears that the reader uses async serial (ie, UART based) so there should be no real technical problem. You will need to find out what is the protocol that the reader expects on its serial port. You WILL need an RS232 interface (receiver/transmitter) IC or equivalent.
