I used mostly the UV-erasable PIC's when I got started with them. They have little windows. I used a couple OTP devices once I got the bugs worked out in the EPROM versions. Now if I use a PIC it's a flash-memory device. They're about the same cost or even cheaper than the EPROM devices. Those little windows must be expensive! I think all the AVR's use flash programming. I asked this question on AVR-club but I don't think I ever got an answer there. Has anyone used a mega16 with a 20 MHz crystal? The specs rate it up to 16 MHz but the UART section in the data sheet lists 20 MHz as a possible frequency.
