I think the cost of UV parts was they need to be made in a ceramic package - that's what I read at least.
Flash love plastic so it id cheaper

I used mostly the UV-erasable PIC's when I got started with them. They
have little windows. I used a couple OTP devices once I got the bugs
worked out in the EPROM versions. Now if I use a PIC it's a flash-memory
device. They're about the same cost or even cheaper than the EPROM
devices. Those little windows must be expensive!

I think all the AVR's use flash programming.

I asked this question on AVR-club but I don't think I ever got an answer
there. Has anyone used a mega16 with a 20 MHz crystal? The specs rate it
up to 16 MHz but the UART section in the data sheet lists 20 MHz as a
possible frequency.
