Hi Raj,
 
Since u have lots of ambient light in ur working condition, I suggest u use ultrasonic which will solve ur problem.
 
Since u only need to control the distant at 3cm. Ultrasonic will be a good solution. However, I guess using ultrasonic will be at the expensive side in term of cost? Maybe I'm wrong.
