Depending upon your tool chain, the SAMPLE programmer that is illustrated in the BASCOM AVR Basic compiler works well. avr-gcc (GCC C compiler) comes with something called "AvrDude" that works *very* well and is compatible with a whole host of parallel port style programmers and some serial programmers. BASCOM and the Sample programmer wiring can be found at www.mcselec.com/download_avr.htm Look in the help file. You can also find the schematic in the last page of my ARC board documentation: www.barello.net/ARC/ARC1.1.pdf Commercial programmers are much more flexible and desirable, but you don't need anything more than a simple LPT programmer for learning & straight forward +5v systems.
