New to AVR

2004-01-12 by WASEEM SHAHZAD

Hi!
I have recently started programming the AVR
microcontrollers. I started programming the Pic
microcontrollers but speed limitations have compelled
me to migrate to AVR.Can any body suggest a freely
available AVR Programmer.
Also i would like to apologise for my first message
which have made some of the members unhappy.
regards.

Depending upon your tool chain, the SAMPLE programmer that is illustrated in
the BASCOM AVR Basic compiler works well. avr-gcc (GCC C compiler) comes
with something called "AvrDude" that works *very* well and is compatible
with a whole host of parallel port style programmers and some serial
programmers.

BASCOM and the Sample programmer wiring can be found at
www.mcselec.com/download_avr.htm Look in the help file. You can also find
the schematic in the last page of my ARC board documentation:
www.barello.net/ARC/ARC1.1.pdf

Commercial programmers are much more flexible and desirable, but you don't
need anything more than a simple LPT programmer for learning & straight
forward +5v systems.

Cheers!
