But maybe he is not so far off the mark. WHile it was not a stupid question.... Maybe I am stupid. I had taken the generic LCD.h file and saved it as lcd.h.bak. I then edited the H file and then created the hex file. unfortunately I edited the bak file, not the H file. So, of course the pin assignemnts I made were not actually represented in the hex file...
