But maybe he is not so far off the mark.  WHile it was not a stupid 
question.... Maybe I am stupid.  I had taken the generic LCD.h file 
and saved it as lcd.h.bak.  I then edited the H file and then 
created the hex file.  unfortunately I edited the bak file, not the 
H file. So, of course the pin assignemnts I made were not actually 
represented in the hex file... Would not work.  Now it does.  
Perfectly.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
