AVR-Chat

It depends on what you want to do, but using your own xtal directly is 
problematic due to the long transmission lines on that board. What I would 
suggest is using the board's clock circuitry. Here's how I have it set up:

xtal jump on. 
OSC jumper on the left two pins (if you can read the silkscreen)

There's a cheatsheet silkscreened on the bottom of the board for reference..
