I didn't say anything about using C over Basic. Matter of fact, 
because you know Basic, that is probably your best choice in getting 
started.

Like you said, sooner or later you will probably make the transition 
but for now its Basic.

Personally, I think anyone that takes programming seriously needs to 
be able to use assembly, Basic and C. That way if you almost only 
use, lets say C and a piece of code for doing something is in Basic 
or assembly you will have a fairly good idea how to convert it to C.
